The material used in the structure of these works is Shibuichi, an alloy of silver and copper traditionally used in Japan starting approx 1500yrs. ago to detail blade weaponry. This material is manipulated under extreme heat through bending, breaking, re-fusing and forming under extreme heat. Surface textures are from controlled melting and heat stress then 18k gold is used for further detailing and stone mounts are applied in 22k and 14k gold. Patinas are from using a torch to slowly burn layers of ‘Raku’ like tones and by depletion gilding to strip away the surface copper leaving a white layer of fine silver. Each piece is then coated with a protective nano-ceramic clear coat which is plated and baked on then precious and semi-precious stones are then set in place.

The attempt is to create works that have the simplicity of torn paper collage and a natural appearance though manipulated in form, texture and surface.
