37th Annual IMAGES: A Festival of the Arts
Florida artists took 20 of the top 36 awards at the 37th Annual IMAGES: A Festival of the Arts, presented by Atlantic Center for the Arts. The three-day festival in New Smyrna Beach featured 225 artists from 39 states across the US and Canada, to record-breaking crowds over a beautiful weekend featuring 225 artists, live entertainment, a student art exhibit with the theme VIVA 500!, and free children's art programs.
Judge Stephan Alexandres said “I’m really impressed with the identity of these artists – everyone is different even though many work in the same media.”
Judge Michael Haga said “The quality of the show made the task of judging both a challenge and a pleasure. It’s exciting to see so many people who have an extraordinary command of their craft whether it be painting, photography, metalwork or any other medium.“
IMAGES thanks its sponsors, including the County of Volusia, City of New Smyrna Beach, New Smyrna Beach Resort Area, New Smyrna Community Redevelopment Agency, Brighthouse Networks, Brown & Brown Insurance, Daytona Beach News-Journal, Publix Supermarket Charities and the State of Florida, Division of Cultural Affairs.
IMAGES: A Festival of the Arts has a reputation as a “selling show” – it awards over $20,000 in prize monies, and has one of the strongest Patrons Programs in the state. This year, 175 community members pre-committed to spending money on art at the Festival through the popular IMAGES Patrons Program. This translates into over $100,000 in prize and patrons monies to support the artists who participate in the Festival.
Laura Beckwith, Chair of the Festival, said “The caliber of artists participating in this show, and the fact that they come from around the country, is amazing. We have such strong community support, in a beautiful natural environment, with the resources of an internationally-renowned artist’s community and 165 volunteers behind us. New Smyrna Beach is a community that appreciates and is educated about the arts. This is a very special event, and we appreciate every artist and the caliber of their work.”
